I’ve been taken to a few Drag Race watch parties at bars in New York, and what really made the shows fun were the drag queens who hosted. So maybe that’s you, maybe it’s a friend, or maybe hire a queen to come host ! Or, save yourself the hassle, and just find a viewing party at a bar near you.
If you have friends who are new to the show, or you got roped into hosting a party, and have no idea what you’re doing, here’s a primer:
If you want to do a deep dive on the show, head to RuPaul’s Drag Race Wiki
Condragulations, you made it through the intro! Below you will find inspiration for what to watch, what food and drinks to serve, how to decorate, makeup tutorials, how to tuck, and various links to other websites more popular than this one. Good luck, and don’t fuck it up!
What to Watch
Ru Paul’s Drag Race airs on MTV Friday’s at 8:00 PM E/T.

If you don’t have cable you can stream the show on:
Past Seasons are on Paramount+ or search clips on the official YouTube page
This guide from Rolling Stone breaks it down even more: Here’s how to watch Drag Race without Cable
MTV’s Official RuPauls Drag Race page has clips, Spotify playlists and links to all their social media.

Spotify has a ton of Drag Race themed playlists — we linked to the official one in the intro, and its included again here. We embedded two, and included more links to the other playlists & albums below. Of course, the other option burn this site to the ground and go make your own own! Get Spotify Premium, or go buy one of those new fangled records all those kids on my lawn keep playing!
There’s lots of Drag Race content on YouTube but we thought it needed a few more playlists. As always we suggest signing up for YouTube Premium to avoid any ads. The playlist below is a mix of drag clips from various movies & TV shows, some funny sketches, Drag influencers, Drag Race contestants, Ru Paul interviews and other nonsense we thought fit the theme. NSFW!
Here’s a playlist we made of some of the funniest Drag Race moments:
Here’s some more links to playlists on YouTube. There’s a lot more than what’s listed here so go on: give that search bar a twirl.

Another option is to just throw on a movie and keep it on mute while you play music; here’s a list of some drag classics. Use Reelgood or JustWatch to see where it’s streaming, or support physical media, why don’t you?
Here’s some music video playlists to throw on. They are the only music video playlists in the world. The only ones that you’ll ever love. The only ones who know your heart. The only ones that are in command. The only ones who understand how to make you feel like a man.
Before the show (or after, when everyone’s had a few) you can set up karaoke. Here’s some tips on how to Host a Karaoke Night at Home. Or you can just:
Use a smartphone app like Singa or Smule. Singa has a free trial and I don’t think either one requires any other equipment than a smart phone.
Set it up through YouTube, though you will probably need a microphone. And signing up for Premium to avoid ad interruptions wouldn’t hurt.
Use Spotify’s karaoke feature, though you may need a microphone
Everyone’s got their Karaoke song, but here’s a list for inspiration:
Games
Since you’re probably watching the show live, commercials will be a great time to play a quick round of trivia.
You can order Drag Race/Drag Queen Trivia themed games, coloring books, puzzles and branded games:
RuPaul's Drag Race Trivia Cards - 100 Printable Trivia Cards For The Ultimate RPDR Fans
The Big Book Of Drag Queens: An Adult Coloring Book Of Glitz, Glam And Dazzling Divas
At the bar viewing parties I went to, the queens who hosted asked trivia questions during the commercials, and gave out free shots for right answers. Since you’re doing this at home all the drinks (I would hope) are free so maybe give out some prizes.
You can also do a full round of trivia after the show. Or before. Either way, get your trivia questions from the links below:
If Drag Race trivia is too much, you can scale it down bit and do something adjacent like pop music, fashion, or LGBTQ+ history:
If you and the guests are up for it, host some of the Challenges from the show like The Snatch Game, The Ball, Girl Group Challenge, Makeover Challenge, or Roast. How you do it is up to you, because we haven’t gotten around to breaking it all down yet, and it might actually be a terrible and overly complicated idea. Here’s what the experts on Reddit have to say:
Decorations
Here are links to some decorations, props posters and balloons to buy.
We picked out some items you can buy, but literally just search “rupaul decorations” on Amazon you’ll find some good stuff.
World of Wonder is the official site for Drag Race merch, so go buy everything you need there!

Costumes
Is it offensive to call drag a “costume?” Maybe! But if you want to get into the spirit we compiled a list of outfits below:

If you don’t want to host, hire a Drag Queen to do it for you:

Need a date to the party? We got you, bro.
